ARP is a protocol used to resolve IP addresses to MAC addresses for devices on the same network. It allows a device to send an ARP request to find the MAC address associated with a specific IP address, and responds with its own MAC address if it's the owner of that IP address. This process enables devices to communicate with each other at the data link layer, ensuring correct delivery of packets within a local network.
