OSI is a 7-layer model that describes how data is communicated between devices over a network. The layers, in order from bottom to top, are Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, and Application. Each layer handles specific tasks, such as physical transmission and receipt of data (Physical), error-checking and framing (Data Link), routing and addressing (Network), and process-to-process communication (Application).
