Ping is a network debugging tool that sends small packets of data to a specified IP address or hostname and measures the time it takes for the packets to travel from the sender to the receiver and back. This process, known as an "echo request" and response, provides information about the latency, packet loss, and connectivity between devices on a network. Ping results help diagnose issues with internet connections, identify problematic networks, and troubleshoot basic computer networking problems.
