It does not establish a dedicated connection between devices, but instead sends packets independently without waiting for acknowledgments. While this makes UDP faster and more efficient than TCP for applications like video streaming and online gaming, it also means that lost or corrupted packets may not be retransmitted, potentially resulting in dropped data or errors.
